Poverty impacts each of us, and each city across Canada, in a unique way. Many Canadians living in poverty face difficult decisions about things most of us take for granted. Challenge your perspective on poverty.
Can you MAKE THE MONTH?
You've lived in Fort McMurray your whole life, but have never felt like you've gotten ahead. Your retail job barely covers your bills, but you're used to living pay cheque to pay cheque. The odd hours and constantly being on your feet aren't helping you get ahead, especially as your mother’s health begins to fail and she relies on you more heavily.
You had your child at a young age and it has just been the two of you ever since. Ten years later, balancing being a single parent and working as a restaurant server still isn’t easy, but most months you can make ends meet.
You and your spouse met in high school. While you graduated, your spouse left high school to start working. Now, with one child in junior high and the other in elementary school, you and your spouse are looking to better your family’s life. Your spouse is completing a diploma program to start a new career and you’re considering alternatives to working at the grocery store.
You need to find a place to live. The city has higher rent, but lower transportation costs. Rent is lower in rural communities, but you'll spend more money and time getting around.

Thankfully, this is just a simulation, but for many people in our community, this is a daily reality. Every month there are challenging decisions that need to be made.
